Newcastle Afternoon Round-Up, Saturday 17th October 2026: Newcastle Gear Up to Host Aston Villa at St James' Park

It's a big Saturday on Tyneside with Newcastle United hosting Aston Villa at St James' Park in a 5.30pm kick-off that's live on television (Shields Gazette) (The Mag). The Magpies will be looking to bounce back from their recent defeat to Coventry (Chronicle Live).

Head coach Matthias Jaissle has made a passionate appeal to the home supporters ahead of kick-off, looking for them to get behind the team (The Mag). The confirmed Newcastle line-up sees Joelinton, Botman and Fernandez-Pardo all named in the starting eleven (The Mag). There's also a notable inclusion with a 19-year-old striker, signed on a free transfer from Levante in the summer, getting the nod for a place in the matchday squad (Shields Gazette). Bazoumana Toure is fit and available but has to make do with a place among the substitutes rather than a starting berth (Newcastle World).

On the Villa side, there's said to be a fitness boost for the visitors, with Newcastle also issued a warning following a £59.5m transfer U-turn, according to a report (Shields Gazette). Elsewhere, attention has also turned to how the rest of the Premier League's seventh round of fixtures could play out from a Newcastle perspective, with other results around the division potentially having an impact on the Magpies' standing (The Mag).
